BIOGRAPHY
For over 24 years, The Brains have been tearing through the world’s stages, creating music, and bringing their explosive psychobilly energy to audiences everywhere. Formed in 2001 in Montreal, Canada, by guitarist and vocalist Rene D La Muerte (Rene Garcia), bassist Johnny Montreal, and drummer Franck O’Brains (François Demers), the band quickly built a reputation for their unique combination of horror imagery, punk attitude, rockabilly roots, and unforgettable live performances.
The Brains first appeared with the track “It’s Over” on the compilation Zombie Night in Canada, followed by their debut album No Brain, No Pain in 2005. Their early years were defined by their theatrical stage presence, including zombie-inspired makeup, glow-in-the-dark lenses, and a visual style that matched their dark, rebellious sound. Albums such as Hell n’ Back (2007) and The Brains (2009), released through Stomp Records, helped establish the band as a major name in the international psychobilly scene.
Throughout their career, The Brains have published over 150 songs and performed at countless international events, building a loyal worldwide following. Led by founding member Rene D La Muerte, the band has continued to evolve through different lineups while always delivering intense, high-energy shows and sharing their music with passionate crowds across the globe. They have toured throughout North America and Europe, appearing alongside acts such as Mad Sin, The Offspring, and The Creepshow.
The band’s sound has continued to grow, blending darker melodies, multilingual lyrics, Latin influences, and their signature horror-punk spirit. Their later albums, including Drunk Not Dead (2011), The Monster Within (2013), and Out in the Dark (2015), showcased their ability to push boundaries while keeping their unmistakable identity.
In 2023, The Brains released Satana Tarantula through Cleopatra Records, featuring guest appearances by Patricia Day of HorrorPops and guitarist Danny B. Harvey. In 2024, The Monster Within gained renewed attention as the title track surpassed one million streams, leading to a special reissue.
Now entering a new chapter, The Brains’ mental star ship intergalactic cruiser continues its journey with a new international lineup featuring the powerful bass work of Bruno Malo and the charismatic radioactive heartbeat of drummer Txernobilly. Together, this lineup brings a new era of chaos, energy, and creativity with the upcoming album Crazy Monster, released with support from Cleopatra Records.
With new music, new videos, and a renewed fire, The Brains continue their mission: spreading horror, rhythm, and rebellion across the universe.
